Story of Oyá: Transformation, Connection, and a New Way of Living

Oyá is more than a brand, it is a project born from a deep desire to reconnect with nature and to offer pathways for transformation. The name Oyá was inspired by Oyá, the powerful orixá from the ancient Yorubá traditions, originating from West Africa in the 11th century. Known as the goddess of winds, storms, and change, Oyá’s energy is one of movement, of clearing what no longer serves, and of bringing transformation into our lives. Regardless of specific religions or traditions, the essence of Oyá represents the courage to face transitions head on and the wisdom to find harmony amidst change. This idea of transformation became the main pillar of Oyá, guiding its mission to help people lead more aligned, connected, and conscious lives.

The story of Oyá began to take shape in Australia, but its roots stretch back to my own personal journey through different places, cultures, and experiences. Since its inception, Oyá has been a blend of my Brazilian heritage and the inspiration I drew from living in Australia. It officially started as a business in 2024, but in truth, it had been growing within me for many years before that. I wanted to create something that would reflect the healing power of nature and share the knowledge I had gained along the way.

My personal journey to creating Oyá was anything but linear. I’ve always felt a deep connection with nature and a curiosity about ancient healing practices. Over the years, life led me through different paths, moving between places, immersing myself in conscious communities, and learning from different cultures. I absorbed knowledge from Yorubá, Indigenous, and Chinese traditions, and became fascinated by the wisdom held in ancient practices. Each step brought me closer to my purpose, revealing how the healing properties of nature could help not only me but also those around me.

Like many of us, I faced moments of uncertainty, confusion, and feeling disconnected from myself. It was through nature, rituals, and holistic practices that I found healing. I realized that the more I aligned with natural cycles, the more present and grounded I felt. This personal transformation became the bridge for Oyá. I wanted to create something that would help others find that same sense of peace and reconnection.

My journey with Oyá has always been guided by what I call the Big 3 C’s: Commitment, Courage, and Consciousness. Commitment to the path of healing and sustainability, Courage to embrace change and face challenges, and Consciousness to remain present and connected with nature, myself, and others.

This project was born from this understanding, that offers natural, handmade products, yes, but beyond that, it offers an opportunity to reconnect with nature, to embrace ancient knowledge, and to find grounding when we can't get out of the mind. Each product carries a bit of this story.

At its core, Oyá is about creating moments of ritual in everyday life. It’s about more than just what we apply to our skin or drink in a cup, it’s about how we feel while doing it. Life can be a special ritual, what direction it will goes depends of the intention we place in our hearts and minds.

As we continue to grow, Oyá remains dedicated to promoting a lifestyle of consciousness and sustainability. We aim to bring ancient indigenous wisdom into modern homes, not only through our products but also by sharing teachings and practices that help to embrace a sense of community and connection.

I truly believe that transformation starts with the small choices we make every day. By choosing natural, eco-friendly products, by slowing down to enjoy a cup of tea, or by engaging in mindful rituals, we align ourselves with the natural rhythm of life. And this is where the real magic happens, the kind of magic that Oyá represents, the magic of transformation, healing, and connection.

Thank you for being part of this journey. May Oyá bring a breeze of change, clarity, and alignment into your life.

With Love,

Tainara Silva
